Contraception is a moral necessity and the bishops of the world have abandoned married couples who grapple with real issues, not utopian, sexist moralizing. I think it is immoral NOT to use prudent means since it is a gift of modern medicine. The strutting, irrelevant bishops now insinuate themselves between women and God. That moral evil conscience then wants to dictate & impose that law on everyone and lobby for laws to impose this limited and tainted, self-centered & narcissistic type of "conscience" on everyone. Aileen's comments are wonderful. As she says, what the partisan bishops are doing to the good concept of religious freedom is deeply troubling. By standing the term on its head in a very cynical way, they're actually undermining the very concept they claim to be defending.

When leaders of one of the major religions of a pluralistic democracy--a religion that has always defended the interface of faith and reason--start acting this way, the democracy is in trouble.William D. The notions that the Obama Administration came up with the contraception mandate out of the blue. As the Mother Jones article cited above the mandate is based on judicial precedent. What irked me at Mass this morning was some of the deacon's remarks during the homily . He opened that he prayed that the ACA was struck down. Why when it's one policy you have issues with? A policy that the current Administration has not fully implemented yet. Wouldn't prudence be a much more beneficial stance and hope that they can come to amiable terms with the gov't over the next year. He stated the Bishops have been promoting universal healthcare since 1919, so why do you want it repealed over one proposal that isn't in force yet. The deacon also said that the gov't decides what a church is with a "can you believe this tone" to his delivery. Yes the gov't can define legal terms as it's "ordained and established by we the people ...to establish justice ...and secure the blessings.of liberty." He said that under the gov'ts definition of a religious institution Jesus and the 12 Apostles would not qualify, which got a good cheer from the congregation. So deacon is this a homily or an audition for talk radio? The gov'ts definition of religious institutions is the result of legislative and judicial precedents not somebody just wingin it in the White House. While the deacon did nod in the direction of justice for undocumented immigrants I think their credibilty to speak out on those other issues is being shredded by their posturing on this issue.

John FremontAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-23479567066130222082012-07-01T20:41:33.421-06:002012-07-01T20:41:33.421-06:00I know scripto. The bishops are trying to change that to institutions have human rights and consciences. The current US Supreme Court might just go along with this nonsense based on their decision in the Citizens United case.
