If the Italian authorities do so, it will be despite the best efforts of the Vatican to stop them. It does not surprise me that Gotti Tedeschi (Tedeschi means German in Italian) is an Opus Dei member. Apparently they and the Vatican are entitled to ignore laws they regard as inconvenient.
