I think it's going to take something which finally motivates the clergy, who have to be getting sick of seeing the Church revert to the past, to finally get some courage and act.

I just wonder if it's going to be the clergy of the left who revolt or the clergy of the right following in the footsteps of SSPX. I sometimes wonder if Benedict isn't catering to the right because he feels they have enough emotional investment in their particular vision to bolt. That would leave him leading the wrong kind of Catholics for his taste. I can easily see where conservative Catholics and conservative Anglicans would make common cause in a 'revisionist' church of unity. Which I guess would leave liberal Anglicans and Catholics together by default. Come to think of it this might be the great separating of the wheat from the chaff.

All I'll say about my IQ is that it's more than two standard deviations over normal and that the right hemisphere tests significantly higher than the left. This discrepancy probably has an awful lot to do with my psychic talent and the fact my strongest psychic talent is Shamaninic journey and precognition. The right hemisphere doesn't compute incremental time and treats every thing as if it's now. This is critical to effective shamanic practice. I could write a book on that though, so I'll just leave it there.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-47714031514875642712008-07-02T20:42:00.000-06:002008-07-02T20:42:00.000-06:00As far as the fines, it is a scare tactic, nothing...As far as the fines, it is a scare tactic, nothing more. Wont hold up in court. More likely that the Vatican orchestrated it to throw gasoline on the fire, to incite the non-catholic communities, cause an incident, then use it to generate fear and hate, the same way they did with the Jews in the early 20th century.

I keep coming back to the same thought ... it only takes a tiny stone to topple a giant, and the giant will never see it coming until it is too late.

I dont know if this fits here or not, but I ran across an interesting tidbit of political news today. Guess who is on the list of possible VP's for Obama?

None other than, Kansas Governor Sebelius. Wouldnt that be an interesting twist if it happened. Bishop Naumann must be having him-aroids right now thinking about it.

I hope it happens. Given the recent propensity to issue papal commandments of who we should vote for, not having a palpable canditate to support would throw them into a real tizzy. Perhaps that will be the tiny stone.

colkoch - ref to one of your posts I read today, would it be out of line to ask what you IQ is?COL55https://www.blogger.com/profile/07057765287988790129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-53668214656015105432008-07-02T13:18:00.000-06:002008-07-02T13:18:00.000-06:00My mind had been running along the same thoughts, ...My mind had been running along the same thoughts, that what this WYD show is really about is how much power and influence the Church still has in certain governments and how far you can still manipulate legislators if you have clerical scarlet and stroke a few egos.

Bill, I don't think there's any question that in cultures like the US and Australia where police and city governments tend to be composed of Catholics, especially Irish Catholics, that there was huge collusion in the cover up of the abuse scandal. Bishops had to literally bank on it and probably pulled every trick in the book to tap into the childhood conciousness of Catholic secular authorities. It's not hard to imagine that when faced with these kinds of crimes the knee jerk reaction was to let Father or Bishop take care of it. Let's keep it in the quiet of the Church confessional so to speak.

I don't know that we'll ever get the full truth, but I think one very good thing to have come from the abuse crisis is the laity's knowledge that this kind of knee jerk respect is not healthy for the laity, the Church, or our children.

Pell and his ilk seem to be trying to reinsert this kind of mentality in the JPII youth, and to some extent Pell still seems to have it in some segments of Australian politics. I suspect though that the article is correct, and the backlash is coming.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-3332383398251999022008-07-02T11:42:00.000-06:002008-07-02T11:42:00.000-06:00Colleen, GREAT commentary and great pictures! Orchestrated, indeed.

And if an orchestrated event like this has to be "protected" from perfectly legitimate expressions of free speech in a democratic society, what does that say about the church's willingness to collude with the state (and vice versa) in doing image management today?

This is a troubling issue in light of the abuse crisis. The guilt for keeping us unaware of the massive levels of clerical child abuse does not lie solely with the church.

The state has played a big role in assisting the cover-up. Media in many cities knew the story, but were afraid to touch it. Many media controlled by local business leaders in cahoots with the church still won't touch it.

In some areas, police willingly cooperated in the coverup. I suspect there has also been more assistance provided to the church in covering up the full ramifications of the coverup, assistance provided by our federal government, than we are yet aware of.William D. Pell must have a lot of political pull in Austrailia to have brought this about? But that is the trend we are witnessing with excommunications of dissenters. Pope Benedict is closer to SSPX's philosophy than SSPX would give him credit for. People just don't deserve any rights or freedom of conscience as far as they are concerned. They have only loyalty to the powers that be in the world and the Church. God to them is about judgment, not about life-giving and grace. The Church pretends to be the dispenser of these graces through its sacraments, but I do not believe that it is. The Holy Spirit can not be boxed like that say.

WYD represents a great opportunity as the Church sees it to gather together the young, stroke their egos a little, give them examples of saints you mentioned for them to follow, proclaim the good news of, well, I don't think it is about Jesus Christ, so it would preaching and proclaiming their ideology and dogma and allegiance to the Pope and Magisterium. Pump them up with ideas that will make their products seem more superior to others and giving them indulgences (coupons or free trials) for showing up is very much along the same lines as the advertising business to gain new customers. In this case, the youth are the customers and the priests are the salesman of the institutional Church that has a job for them to become salesmen like them.butterflyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09684946870144030594noreply@blogger.com
