Being a newcomer to Canada, I've heard about this scandal, ( the schools and orphangaes), for a number of years. It really is not a pretty episode in the Church's history in Canada. It must be pointed out that one of the first "American" saints to be canonized was Kateri Tekahkwitha, a Mohawk. There's an interesting new book by a Mohawk writer, Darren Bonaparte, entitled " A Lily Among the Thorns" that presents St. Kateri from a Mohawk perspective rather than from a "colonizing" Catholic perspective. She had a very difficult life and she is truly a treasure for all Americans.

On another note, I'm fascinated by the notion of the 500 years effect that decisions have.

The tragic schism between the "Latin West" and the "Orthodox East" is now almost one thousand years old. The last great attempt at reunion in 1439 or so failed miserably. The original split, ( officially 1054 but actually in many ways even earlier), was not healed. The last time ( around 500 years later), it was not healed. Perhaps, once this present crisis is over, ( and the crisis is one revolving around authority and power and both sides are facing the same crisis- just read some Orthodox blogs to get a view), there can be some healing of the split and real reunion can take place. There is a new energy occuring, one that points to something different. Let's hope that it can heal a very real wound in the Body of Christ.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-48672798636739111312009-04-26T11:48:00.000-06:002009-04-26T11:48:00.000-06:00Butterfly, Benedict will get a chance to start the...Butterfly, Benedict will get a chance to start the process on the 29th of this month. He is meeting with members of the Canadian First Nations:

(CCCB – Ottawa) – On 29 April 2009 following the General Audience which regularly takes place on Wednesday mornings, Pope Benedict XVI will meet with a delegation of Aboriginal representatives from Canada including Mr. Phil Fontaine, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and with representatives of Catholic dioceses and religious communities in Canada, including Archbishop V. James Weisgerber, President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. During this meeting, the Pope will express his concern for Aboriginal Peoples in Canada who continue to suffer from the impact of the former Indian Residential Schools, the majority of which were managed by a number of Catholic dioceses and religious orders. A written declaration – signed by the Holy Father – will be presented to the Aboriginal representatives to mark the mutual determination of the Catholic Church and Aboriginal communities in Canada to continue efforts toward reconciliation and forgiveness.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-70101447528461349682009-04-25T19:09:00.000-06:002009-04-25T19:09:00.000-06:00"Traditional indigenous belief says that unless on..."Traditional indigenous belief says that unless one works through and reconciles the past 500 years the same energy from that era will be brought into the next 500 years."

I've been feeling all that energy; the good and the bad. I can understand this concept of consciousness in cycles. I hope that the Pope will meet with the Grandmothers one day soon and hear what they have to say and to rescind the Papal Bull.

God bless these women for trying to get their message to the Pope. I wonder where it wound up? The gatekeepers have kept it from him? The Pope ignored it?butterflyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09684946870144030594noreply@blogger.com
