Jerry Slevin is right, the USCCB sees themselves as the replacement for the Evangelical vacuum vacated by the incapacitation of Billy Graham, death of Jerry Falwell, and apparent incompetence of Pat Robertson. I expect more and more politicizing from the pulpit, and a whole lot more lies and inventifacting. There is no question in my mind that Rome is behind it.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-35231917455452636332012-11-04T19:18:18.845-07:002012-11-04T19:18:18.845-07:00Unfortunately I read an article on Huffpo this mor...Unfortunately I read an article on Huffpo this morning that states the IRS has not investigated a single 501c3 for crossing political lines in the last three years. They are waiting for somebody or other to sign off on an actual policy. Sort of explains why our bishops feel free to cross the lines.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-67107977818680534462012-11-04T19:16:24.597-07:002012-11-04T19:16:24.597-07:00Some of his classmates certainly think so, judging...Some of his classmates certainly think so, judging from a couple of comments on NCR to Cafardi's article.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-31240089890273757772012-11-04T17:31:14.374-07:002012-11-04T17:31:14.374-07:0020 or so states have been assaulting "religio...20 or so states have been assaulting "religious freedom" for about a decade now and Catholic Charities , schools and such are still up and running in many of them. Yet, to hear the priest's homily this
morning in Denver the HHS mandate will extinguish Catholic social services in the US.

The candidate that supports IVF is also right out of bounds. Is that Romney or Obama?

Embryonic stem cell research is also dealbreaker in voting for a candidate. Although when it involved existing stem cell lines George W our most pro-life Prez approved it. So voting for him or McCain was not jeopardizing your soul. So if I understand it correctly, if I discover that the steak I'm eating has human flesh in it, I should just finish eating it. Why waste a good steak. Since we were already performing experiments with microscopic humans go ahead and keep using them then.

Meanwhile, the GOP's candidates approval of torture, and Romney's pivot to the Bush Doctrine in foreign policy which features preventive war gets no mention at all from the pulpit.
To resort to use of deadly force against a sovereign nation before all other means are exhausted goes directly against just war teachings. Apparently, neither of these two were worthy of mention when evaluating a candidate in our parish priest's homily this morning.
Why are these issues always passed off as prudential?

There's my random thoughts about the homily I heard today.

John Fremont
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-77410749447133479642012-11-04T15:40:17.197-07:002012-11-04T15:40:17.197-07:00Show me a thin bishop and I'll show you an Ang...Show me a thin bishop and I'll show you an Anglican. 'This assault upon our religious freedom is simply without precedent in the American political and legal system.'"

People who read and write for Free Republic seem to know whom Jenky is talking about. The bishops are probably getting legal advice from Robert George. I didn't see where Jenky could be touched on the letter for this Sunday as he never mentions a specific candidate, but if he was dumb enough to send out a letter that actually names Obama, and not just alludes to the Democratic party, he may actually be in trouble.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-15534709357621353982012-11-04T13:21:10.129-07:002012-11-04T13:21:10.129-07:00Thanks for posting this. You cover the territory well.

Anyhow, CREW, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington has filed an official complaint with the IRS about the political involvement of some Roman Catholic Bishops in the 2012 election. They single out Jenky. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/11/04/u-s-conference-of-catholic-bishops-faces-irs-complaint-over-partisan-advocacy/

Here is one short quote from Raw Story: "The complaint noted that Bishop Daniel R. Jenky of the Diocese of Peoria has urged his parishioners to vote against President Barack Obama. In a letter sent to area Catholics, Jenky said there was nothing more threatening to religious liberty than President Barack Obama and Democrats in the Senate because they supported a new Health & Human Services Department rule that requires most employers to provide free birth control coverage in their health insurance plans. Earlier this year, Jenky compared Obama to Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin".wild hairhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08464835061893041481noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-50989064885182996342012-11-03T16:50:23.535-06:002012-11-03T16:50:23.535-06:00Amen, Fran!Amen, Fran!khughes1963https://www.blogger.com/profile/16118365554189078448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-56442603690897814882012-11-03T14:58:08.871-06:002012-11-03T14:58:08.871-06:00Alas, another character in the Church who wears a ...Alas, another character in the Church who wears a cross but does not carry it in the Faith of Jesus Christ's teachings!!! Oh, what are the Beatitudes compared to silver for men who walk in black robes like a secular supreme court?

I am convinced that Jenky and Burke are so narcissistic that they can't see beyond their own noses or red hats. They are truly stuck in this mindless activity of politicking within the Church with regard to issues that have to do with sex or with sexuality, and they forbid themselves to fully understand those very issues, and without any real regard for the Gospels or for the real history of the USA.

They are Actors, followers not of Christ but of Limbaugh!! Like him they are teaching their own brand of prejudices, lies and fears. Is it any wonder then that they are full of prejudices, lies and fear?

Burke the Jerk should know better and so should Stinky Jinky. I mean Jenky & Jerky.
