That includes the comments I make.

I will keep you in my prayers as you represent one of my daily prayers, which is that more 'kind' men will enter the seminary. I don't ask God for a particular theological bent so much as that the seminiarians are kind and compassionate. Those two things will impact another person's spirituality far beyond any theological bent. Something you seem to already know.

I think the church has gotten mean because the church is running scared and is being run by men with fear filled hearts. Fear isolates.

Feel free to drop in at any time. There are some wise voices who comment here and yours is welcome.colkochhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03432916690101599393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-28624861033994501692009-11-17T00:12:13.881-07:002009-11-17T00:12:13.881-07:00Thank you TheraP for the article in the Washington...Thank you TheraP for the article in the Washington post. I think I do understand where you'...Anonymous:

I think I do understand where you're coming from. And not only are you having a hard time in the seminary, but the need to "hide" your true self during your seminary training is not ideal training for the priesthood. Not that I'm placing the blame on you here. But whether it's hiding a liberal theological bent or hiding being gay, it is not healthy for the person (called by God I might add!) to be placed in a position where in order to follow God's call it is necessary to "go underground".

I will indeed pray for you. And I pray for the church.

There's a line in Psalm 102 that talks about Jerusalem as rubble and depending on the translation it says "I love her very dust" or "I love her very stones." Right now, the church is that "beloved ruin" akin to the Jerusalem of memory for the exiled psalmist.

Peace be with you. And inner strength. If I were in your shoes, I would pray "Come Lord Jesus" and "Come Holy Spirit" ALL THE TIME!TheraPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17684120043427738135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-51436877402230729872009-11-16T18:19:52.949-07:002009-11-16T18:19:52.949-07:00that should say "kind" priest. please ch...that should say "kind" priest. please change it colleen. it's a very unfortunate mistakeAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-19265221766278369732009-11-16T18:18:34.124-07:002009-11-16T18:18:34.124-07:00There is a lot of favoritism among bishops when it...There is a lot of favoritism among bishops when it comes to seminarians, and most of it benefits intelligent, handsome men provided, and this is important, that they are conservative and play into this.
That said, being groomed to be a bishop is not what most seminarians desire at all as we train for priesthood. Being a regular priest is. The conservative guys--and most seminarians are pretty darn conservative these days--have a very easy time moving toward ordination.
It is the progressive guys--the ones who are much more like the kink priests we've all admired most of our lives--are the ones on danger. They are the one's who are weeded out now.
So, keep in mind that a little bit of nepotism sometimes helps these progressive guys make it through the mine field that is seminary formation these days. It's very, very tough to make it if you lean liberal. And even though the liberal bishops don't speak up at the USCCB conference or in the political realm these days, they will quietly support liberal seminarians, whom they see as the only ones who may be able to stem the tide of meanness that is overtaking the church. We're in a tough position. I doubt any of you know how bad it is for us. We rely on a few quietly liberal bishops--most of them very near to retirement--to help us make it through.
Pray for us all. It's really disheartening on the inside.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-18546579310703193702009-11-16T14:19:34.966-07:002009-11-16T14:19:34.966-07:00You know, I wonder if the RC "ladder" of...You know, I wonder if the RC "ladder" of achievement for clergy is like the military: When there's a "war" on, it's easier to move up. So, to designate enemies and hew to the party line is to position yourself for a medal = bishop, archbishop, cardinal... If you "prove" you will sacrifice all for the war effort, including historical truth, the innocence of children, the hypocrisy of "celibacy" and so on, then you may make it up the ladder.

I'm so sick of soldiers being called "warriors" and hypocrites being called Father, etc.

I'm glad there are still some true spiritual Fathers left. Many, alas, are in other churches! Or hidden in monasteries.TheraPhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17684120043427738135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8383701632927065467.post-23511783443619500652009-11-16T13:26:30.000-07:002009-11-16T13:26:30.000-07:00That's a great comment and article.
