Fr Mychal Judge Nominated For The Congressional Gold Medal

I saw this live on TV and lost it.  This was a man for all seasons in our time.  He has more than merited  the secular honor, but the religious equivalent will not be his in this current Church climate.  God Bless Mychal Judge.

ACTION ALERT! Father Mychal Judge has been nominated for The Congressional Gold Medal in recognition of his heroic life and death. This is the nation's highest and oldest honor, first awarded to George Washington in 1776. Please contact members of Congress to urge them to support this award. See details here

Mychal's Prayer:
Lord, take me where You want me to go,
let me meet who You want me to meet,
tell me what You want me to say,
and keep me out of Your way.

In view of some things going on in my life at this moment, it's really interesting to me I caught this prayer of Mychal's today.  Just one more proof God is good and things are really moving in terms of an enlightened Catholic consciousness.

  1. Sad that Fr. Mychal will never be canonized by the RC church because he was gay and a recovering alcoholic. Rome just keep canonizing popes, bishop, priests and nuns, leaving us lay folk no one to identify with. At least we have Blessed Matt Talbott. But where is St. Dorothy Day?

  2. I completely agree, Bill. He'll be honored by this "secularist, hedonistic, materialistic" society and likely, never, by the official Church, which heralds itself as a beacon and stalwart against the Western world.

  3. We know Dorothy Day is a saint. She would not have wanted all that money wasted on an ostentatious Vatican ceremony. Think of all the meals that money could buy for the poor!

  4. Trans, I seriously doubt Fr Mychal cares either. But then we are talking about two spiritual people who lived their lives as if they really believed they couldn't take wealth with them when they died.

I also don't believe you can buy sainthood for someone, especially if they used their position within the church to salt away the money to buy their own sainthood--and their mother's.

  5. It also reminds me of Hildegard of Bingen, a truly remarkable nun who is revered still, although she was never formally canonized. I admit to being partial to her music.

She has long been venerated as a saint but has never been formally canonized. But miracles at her grave and her presence in the Roman Martyrology attest to her holiness and the validity of her visions.

    ## St. Hildegard is not alone - St. Simon Stock was never formally canonised; many Saints have not been. Yey they are venerated as Saints throughout the Church.

    ## Neither is an obstacle - his own community has, it seems, to start the ball rolling; if they don't, nothing will happen.
